Instruction

Cypress Creek Golf Course is a fantastic place to learn the game of golf.

Our Director of Instruction, Tommy Rutherford, is one of the best in the business, and we have instructional lessons for golfers of all backgrounds and skill levels.

Tommy learned the game from several club professionals while growing up in Little Rock and North Dakota.  It was in 1974 when he was awarded the opportunity to work for a Summer at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia and learn under the tutelage of Sam Snead.

He began his career in 1980 as the first Assistant Professional at Inverness Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.  Gathering valuable experience, after a couple of years, Tommy jumped at the opportunity to return to his native state with an offer to join the staff at the Country Club of Little Rock.  Mentored by one of his first instructors and longtime Head Golf Professional , Charles F. Lewis, Jr.

After several years, he was offered the position of First Assistant Professional at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Little Rock.  Along with learning tournament organization and merchandising, he began teaching more and more, developing a following of students. Several members of Pleasant Valley still come to Cypress Creek to take lessons.

In 1988, Tommy became the Head Golf Professional at Helena Country Club in West Helena, Arkansas.  Remaining in that role until 1993 when he moved back to Little Rock and began teaching full time.  He served as the Director of Instruction at the Lakewood Golf School and Stone Links Golf Course in North Little Rock before coming to Cypress Creek in 2014.

Tommy has also grown a very large PGA Junior Program here at Cypress Creek.
